You don’t need another human being to make your life complete, but let’s be honest. Having your wounds kissed by someone who doesn’t see them as disasters in your soul, but cracks to put their love into, is the most calming thing in this world.
The first think [Lemmy] ever said to me, he said, ‘I’m sorry about your friend Kurt.’ In that moment, [he went from being] the whiskey-drinking, badass-motherfuckin’ rock star, to being this gun-slinging, whiskey-drinking, badass-motherfuckin’ rock star with a heart. And I walked away thinking I may never see him again, but that’s enough for the rest of my life. But then we became friends. It’s one thing when you have a hero, but it’s another thing when your hero becomes your friend.
You are allowed to grieve the years you lost to mental illness. You’re allowed to be mad that it happened to you. You’re allowed to pine after the person you might have been had it been different. But don’t let that get in the way of your growing into your new self and following a wholly new path for your life.
